Box Scores: Game 1, L, 7-2 | Game 2: W, 5-4

The Big Train returned home on Sunday to host the Alexandria Aces in doubleheader action at Povich Field. Having already clinched both a first-round bye and the first-overall seed in the CRCBL Playoffs, the Big Train came into the day looking to generate some momentum as they enter post-season action.

The Big Train scored two early runs in the first game. A home run by Josh Spano (High Point) gave the Big Train an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, before Logan Farrar (Virginia Commonwealth) scored on a Tim Yandel (Tulane) single in the third to make the score 2-0.

However, the Aces scored seven unanswered runs in the following innings and ultimately took the first game by a score of 7-2.

In the second game, the story differed greatly. The Big Train fell behind early on, as the Aces scored four runs in the first five innings. With the game only being seven innings in length, the Big Train had just three innings to stage a comeback.

In the bottom of the sixth, they did just that.

A walk and two singles started the inning and loaded the bases for Ryne Willard (Tallahassee CC) with no outs. Willard capitalized on the opportunity by driving in Kevin Tatum (Cornell) and Johnny Cole (Coastal Carolina) on a two-run single to cut the Aces lead to two.

Two batters later, Mike Miedzianowski (High Point) came to the plate with runners on second and third and tied the game with a clutch two-run double. While attempting to steal third base, Miedzianowski drew an over-throw from the catcher and scored to give the Big Train a 5-4 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Trevor Charpie (Tennessee) closed out the Aces and picked up the win.

The Big Train will travel to Alexandria on Monday to play the Aces once again in their final day of regular season action.
