Big Train College Round-Up 3/7

Ricky Santiago (BT ’13) had another big week at Florida Atlantic, getting five hits while driving in runs in four of the Owls’ five games. Santiago also scored four runs. On the mound, Brandon Rhodes (BT ’14) gave up just one run over four innings while striking out three batters, and Cody Mizelle (BT ’13) also pitched 4.2 shutout innings across two appearances, striking out four batters. Bo Logan (BT ’12,'14), fresh off being named FAU’s Athlete of the Week, put together another solid week as well, giving up no earned runs across a combined 3.1 innings, striking out seven batters.

In North Carolina, Big Train players Cody Manzella (BT ’14), pictured, and Josh Spano (’13) helped lead High Point to a 2-1 record in this week’s Elon Invitational. Both players shined in the Panthers’ victory over Elon on March 1, combining for three hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Manzella also had a two-hit game in the team’s tournament opener against Gardner-Webb on Friday, a game in which Big Train alumnus Mike Miedzianowski (BT ’12-13) also scored as a pinch runner.

Out west, Ty France (BT ’13) continued to put on a show for the San Diego State Aztecs. In four games, France went 9/17, hitting two home runs, a double and five RBIs while scoring four runs of his own. On the mound, Bubba Derby (BT ’13) gave up two runs in six innings, striking out five batters en route to his second win of the season. Justin Hepner (BT ’13) helped close things out for Derby, recording the final out of the game.
