![]() Colin Kish slides into third with the game-winning triple. The Train fell behind 2-0 after the Giants scored runs in the 2nd and 4th innings, but Tyler Thomas led off the bottom of the 5th inning with a leadoff single, advancing to second on a wild pitch and then scoring on the RBI-single by Brandon Gum. Hugh Adams was able to come in and throw a scoreless 6th, holding the deficit at one, setting up a Colin Kish two-run double off the scoreboard to drive in Matt Bowman and Brendan Hendricks. “I just tried to shorten up with [an 0-2 count] and hit it the other way,” said Kish. “It worked out.” Avontre Bollar was then able to reach first base on a dropped third strike. The Giants then attempted a trick play on the stolen base by Bollar, cutting off the throw to second and attempting to throw out Kish stealing home. However, Kish managed to dive around the tag by Giants catcher Lane Farmer, scoring the Train’s fourth and final run. “Colin’s a great player,” said manager Sal Colangelo. “He did great things.” Adams would pitch a scoreless 7th inning, giving the Train a 4-2 win over the Giants. Adams got the victory and went two scoreless innings to close out the game, pitching very well in his first appearance in over a year (due to injury). “He threw strikes,” said Colangelo. “He got after it. We’re coming together as a team … You just have to execute and get lucky sometimes and let the pieces fall right where they may.” The Big Train will play their final home exhibition game tomorrow against the Herndon Braves at 5PM, and then two more games on the road prior to Friday night’s season opener against the Rockville Express. |
