![]() The Bethesda Big Train defeated the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts to claim their third straight victory, Silver Spring-Takoma got on the board first in the second inning. They pushed across three unearned runs off of Chris Monaco (Virginia Tech). Although Monaco did not pick up the victory, he pitched an outstanding game giving up only one hit and stricking out five. Down 3-0 after the second inning, the Big Train never waivered. They have come back from larger deficits several times this season and tonight was no different. The rally began in the in the fourth inning when Garrett Kueber (Moorpark) doubled and brought Cody Brown (Miss St.) home from first. Bethesda pulled within two. Gunnar Lambert (FAU) pushed one more run accross in the fifth. He singled home Allen Smoot (San Francsico) and made it a one run game. Lambert came home on a fielder's choice to tie the game in the same inning. Peyton Sorrels (Maryland) used his nifty baserunning skills to move over to third on a groundout. Sorrells scored later to take the lead. In the eighth inning, the Big Train put the game away. They exploded for four runs on four hits and capitalized on a Thunderbolt error. Austin Hale (Stetson) singled to left and a throwing error on the first baseman allowed a run to cross the board. The pitcher was charged with a balk to begin the scoring as the Big Train widen their lead to three. Brown hit a single to score two more runs making it 8-3. The bullpen did a phenomenal job, pitching shut out baseball throughout the game. Matt Herzog (Louisburg) picked up the win, pitching two innings and striking out four. Bethesda returns to action to take on the second place Alexandria Aces. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
