Box Score: W, 11-0
Tonight's game against the DC Grays was certainly the best we've seen out of the Big Train this season, as David Wayne Russo (San Jose State) and Jordan Gross (Tulane) combined for a 2-hit shutout leading the Big Train to a 11-0 victory for their first regular-season win.
Russo went six strong innings in his season debut, giving up his only hit to Grays second baseman Mike Genovese with one out in the third inning. Russo's final line would sit at one hit, three walks and seven strikeouts, as he earned his first win of the year.
The Big Train also had their star hitter of the 2011 season back in the lineup for the first time this season, as catcher Hunter Renfroe (Mississippi State) also made his Big Train season debut batting cleanup. Renfroe drew two walks, tying for the team lead in scoring crossing the plate twice.
Despite the great news of Renfroe's return, designated hitter Tucker Tobin (George Mason) stole the show at Hoy Field tonight crossing the plate twice himself, leading the team with three hits and two RBIs in his five at-bats extending his season average to an impressive .333.
Colin Kish ( and Cole Norton would contribute two RBIs a piece, Kish scoring two as well. The team finished with season-highs in runs (ten), earned runs (zero) and errors made (zero), a true testament to how well this team has started to gel. Box scores for tonight's game can be viewed here.
The Big Train will look to carry this momentum into tomorrow night's showdown against the Herndon Braves, their second game of a three-game road trip before returning home on Thursday night to take on the Alexandria Aces. Tickets to that game can be purchased here.
