College Round Up: March 20

For this week’s Round Up we will start in California.

At Sacramento State, James Outman (BT 2017) is hitting a cool .297 at the plate with a slugging percentage of .527. He leads the team with 4 home runs and is tied in doubles at 4 with fellow Big Train alum Vinny Esposito (BT 2016-17).  Despite his .239 average, Vinny is second on the team with a .365 On-base Percentage.

At Cal State Northridge, Albee Weiss (BT 2014) continues his hot start. He’s batting .308 with 5 doubles and a team-lead 10 home runs and 30 RBI.  Albee is slugging an incredible .756.

Ken Waldichuk (BT 2017) remains dominant for the Gaels of St. Mary’s College (CA). In 5 starts, Ken has a dazzling 1.07 ERA and 3-1 record in 33.2 innings. He’s struck out 43 batters while only walking 8 and opponents are hitting a miniscule .162 against the left-hander. Kevin Milam (BT 2017) continues to show why he is one of the most well-known dual threat players in the country. On the mound, Kevin is 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA making 4 starts across 28.1 innings. At the plate, Milam leads the Gaels in average and On-base percentage at .317 and .481 respectively. Also with the Gaels is lefty Ty Madrigal (BT 2017). In 6 appearances, 5 out of the bullpen, Madrigal has only given up two earned runs across 10.1 innings giving him a 1.74 ERA.

As we start moving East, we will stop at Kentucky where Luke Heyer (BT 2017) has helped lead the Wildcats to a top-5 ranking. Luke is slashing .362/.458/.783 while hitting 5 doubles and 8 home runs and driving in 22 runs.

At Creighton, Mike Emodi (BT 2016-17) has earned Big East player of the week for the second week in a row. Mike is on a tear, throwing out would be stealers, and launching home runs. Emodi is hitting .379 at the plate with a .788 slugging percentage. He has 6 doubles on the season and leads the Blue Jays in home runs and RBI with 7 and 28 respectively; Mike has also thrown out 11 runners in 17 attempts.

Freshman Tanner Allen (BT 2017) of Mississippi State has shown up in a major way. Tanner leads the Bulldogs in several categories in including doubles (6), RBI (13), and slugging percentage (.493). Tanner also holds a .315 batting average. On the mound for the bulldogs, Blake Smith (BT 2015) still has yet to give up a run across 7.2 innings in relief, striking out 8 batters while only walking one. JP France (BT 2014), a graduate transfer from Tulane holds a 1.32 ERA in six appearances over 13.2 innings pitched.

At Austin Peay, Garrett Kueber is showing what makes him so good. Alongside his stellar defense at short stop, Garrett leads the Govs in average (.356), doubles (6), triples (1), and RBI (22). Garrett also has hit two home runs and holds a .467 On-base percentage.

Moving to Florida, Logan Gilbert (BT 2016) continues his dominant play for the 17-3 Stetson Hatters. In 5 starts, Logan is 4-0 with a 2.67 ERA across 33.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .172 against him and he has struck out 50 batters while only walking 8! At the plate for the Hatters, Jacob Koos (BT 2017) is hitting .333, leading the team with 26 hits and 18 runs scored. Austin Hale (BT 2016) continues to be a dominant force behind the plate throwing out 7 would-be stealers. Austin has also contributed on the offensive end with 13 RBI and a .236 average.

In Boca at Florida Atlantic, Kyle Marman (BT 2016) remains red hot. In 5 starts, Kyle is 4-0 with a 1.45 ERA. He has struck out 46 batters while walking four across 31 innings.

At Harford Community College, Zach Guth (BT 2016-17) is finding his niche. Zach is 4-0 in four starts and holds a 2.75 ERA. He has struck out 26 batters in 19.2 innings and opponents are hitting .149 against him.

At ECU, Tyler Smith (BT 2017) is showing why he got the starting nod in game 3 of the championship series this past summer.  Tyler is 3-0 across six appearances in 23.1 innings of work. His ERA is a dazzling 0.39.

Jordan Sergent (BT 2017) won the Big South Player of the Week for High Point. This past week, Jordan went 6-13 with 2 doubles and a home run. In addition to his great hitting, Sergent was the Friday Night starter.
