![]() Carson Taylor stands in the box waiting for the pitch during Big Train's 6-3 win over the Gaithersburg Giants The last time the big train played the Thunderbolts, it was a doubleheader at the Silver Spring-Takoma Park home stadium. The first of the two games broke a Bethesda record for the longest win streak to start a season. The second was the first loss the big train suffered on the season. Since then the Big Train (13-2) have lost only one more game, continuing their overall dominance of the CRCBL. Leading the team in home runs (8), RBIs (23), and batting average (.563) two-way player Alec Burleson (East Carolina) has been vital in Bethesda’s success. As has freshman catcher and third baseman Carson Taylor (Virginia Tech), who had a home run on Saturday, his first of the summer. In addition to Burleson and Taylor, Justin Wylie (Arizona) and John Glenn round out the four players with the highest batting averages on the team (Taylor .339, Wylie .410, Glenn .356). For Silver Spring-Takoma Park (6-10), Zach Buck, Hunter Pearre and Nicholas Atkinson proved trouble for the Bethesda pitching staff in the previous double header. To take the series lead 2-1, the Big Train will need to be dominant on the mound, getting ahead in the count early and maintaining composure. Brock Guffey (Alabama) will likely start for the Big Train. He enters the game with a 1-0 record and a 3.37 ERA, going four innings and giving up three runs on four hits, two walks and seven strikeouts in his last appearance, the Big Train’s loss to the Thunderbolts on June 16. Yash Rane is the probable starter for the thunderbolts. On the season he had a 7.81 ERA and a 1-2 record, giving up five runs on five hits in five innings against the Baltimore Dodgers on June 17. First pitch is set for 7pm at Shirley Povich Field. Fans unable to attend the game can listen on mixlr, follow along on Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram (@gobigtrain), or watch the team’s periscope video. |
