Big Train Hustle Award: Brennan Middleton

By:
Brennan Middleton (Tulane University) had another great season in Bethesda this summer, as he built on a successful 2011 campaign in which he posted a .295 batting average while stealing 12 bases and collecting 12 RBIs. This season he saw an increase in nearly every offensive category, as he hit .326 while tallying 31 hits, three home runs,  17 RBIs and 19 stolen bases.

"Every few years, we get a player who epitomizes the can-do ethic that coaches look for," said manager Sal Colangelo. "For three Big Train seasons, Brennan has been that guy. He has been the backbone of this organization, the guy who would do anything you ask of him -- dragging the field, cutting the grass, getting it done in the game. We will really miss having Brennan around here next summer."

Upon receiving the award Brennan had this to say:

“Playing for the Big Train over the past three years has been one of the best experiences of my life. Off the field I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and to build so many great life-long relationships that I will forever have. Words can’t express my gratitude towards the host families that open their homes to players from all over the country and the wonderful memories that were made. I can’t thank [manager Sal Colangelo] enough for having me back for all three years. On the field I gave everything I had, day in and day out to help the Big Train not only win the Cal Ripken League Championship but possibly have the opportunity to win a National Championship. We were able to accomplish both of these feats in my three years in Bethesda. I hope that I was able to make a difference in someone’s life whether it was a camper at one of the Big Train camps or a young baseball player learning to play the game by watching us play every night. I take pride in playing the game the right way every time I step between the lines by giving it 100% every pitch every inning. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to play for the Big Train throughout my college career.”

Check back next week as the team announces its Most Outstanding Hitter Award.
