Renfroe and Logan Round Up Manager's Awards

By:Michael Natelli

Hunter Renfroe and Bo Logan round up Sal Colangelo’s Manager’s Awards. In addition to being named the league’s MVP, Manager Sal Colangelo named Renfroe (Mississippi State) the team’s MVP while Bo Logan (Florida Atlantic) was named the team’s Most Outstanding Pitcher for 2012.

During the pregame ceremonies of the final regular-season home game this season, Hunter Renfroe became one of two Big Train players ever to have their number retired, as #11 now proudly sits in right-center field. A #11 seal was also placed on the left-field stadium light courtesy of Hunter’s host mom, Becky Crowley, as another way to remember the phenomenal season that Hunter put together.

The season Hunter put on what was perhaps the greatest season in the history of the CRCBL, setting league records in home runs (16), RBIs (53) and runs scored (47). Hunter was recognized on a national scale for his achievements, being named a First-Team Summer League All-American by Perfect Game USA.

"Hunter is the best five tool player I have ever coached and the greatest position player ever to play in this league,” said manager Sal Colangelo. “To hit 19 long balls in a summer season is simply unheard of. With his big time power, Hunter is a future first round pick. I'm looking forward to watching him in the major leagues soon."

Hunter looks to help his Mississippi State Bulldogs defend their 2012 SEC-Champion before becoming eligible for the 2013 First-Year Player Draft held by Major League Baseball in mid-June.

Bo Logan arrived just in time to help the Big Train take off after starting the season 1-5. He would come in to pitch relief in the June 13 matchup against the Takoma-Silver Spring Thunderbolts, giving up no hits and picking up the win. The win would be the Big Train’s second in three games, and from there they’d go on to win eight of their next 13 games to set up a very successful July.

But Logan was not just the most outstanding pitcher on the Big Train, but was outstanding amongst the league as well. He finished second in the league in wins (5), third in the league in ERA (3.13), and struck out 32 batters in 37.1 regular-season innings. Logan also performed when it mattered most, throwing seven scoreless innings to help the Big Train knock off the archrival and top-seeded Rockville Express in the playoffs.  Logan gave up just five hits while striking out seven.

“This summer was fun,” said Logan. “I would like to thank my coaches for choosing me as most outstanding pitcher for the Big Train. It truly is an honor. I would also like to thank all my teammates for competing with me. Hopefully we can do this all again next summer.”

"Bo's a crafty lefty who picks batters apart and keeps them off balance while  pounding the zone,” said manager Sal Colangelo. “He was a dependable starter all summer. We are looking forward to having him back next summer."

Logan will join Big Train teammates Hugh Adams on the Florida Atlantic University baseball team this spring as he enters his sophomore year of college.

Colangelo said that despite the Big Train's failure to win a fourth consecutive league championship, "it was a great summer for all of the guys. We had a slow start, but the team really came together and played some fabulous baseball. We came up a little short, but that's baseball. No one wins them all. I'm really proud of these guys and looking forward to another good run next summer."
