Just Two More Weeks: Everything’s Coming Up Roses at Povich Field

By:

Tickets go on sale to general public on Thursday, May 27

Big Train baseball is back! On Saturday June 5 when the Bethesda Big Train takes the field at Shirley Povich Field, it will be our first game in 635 days, the first game since the team captured the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League championship for the eighth time on July 31, 2019. 635 days.

It has been a long and challenging 15 months, but a summer of fun is just around the corner.

A lot has happened since we proudly announced on May 5 that we had won approval from Montgomery County officials to host 250 fans at Shirley Povich Field this summer. With new protocols issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the extraordinary vaccination rates first of adults and now of children 12-15, county officials are removing restrictions on outdoor sports events starting on May 28. We are working hard to update the health and safety protocols approved by the county weeks ago. We hope to post our updated protocols next Friday May 28.

Here’s the good news: with changing federal, state, and county regulations, we are retooling our new online ticketing system to allow near full capacity for all 2021 games at Povich Field.

2021 season pass holders will be able to reserve their seats for all June Big Train games starting on Tuesday May 25 at 9 a.m. If you are not yet a season pass holder, it is not too late to sign upOnline sale of tickets to the general public will open on Thursday May 27 at 9 a.m. For more information, please email tickets@bigtrain.org.

To reserve space in the Davis Family Picnic Pavilion for a pre-game picnic with menu choices from Gregorio’s Trattoria and Catalyst Hot Dogs, please email Bruce Adams at bruce@greaterwash.org. The basic picnic package at $20 per person will guarantee you space in our covered picnic pavilion and seats together at the game. Each person gets a ticket to the game, a pre-game meal, and a drink. For 2021 season pass holders in your group, the cost will be discounted to $15 per person.
