The sixth week of the college baseball season is in the books and now seems like as good a time as ever to take a small break. Many teams played fewer games this week due to spring breaks across the country which should give their players some time to rest up for the later parts of the season.

Nevertheless, some teams did take the field this week. One of those teams, the San Diego State Aztecs, was powered by a couple of future Big Train stars.  Ryan Doran (BT ’12) led the team to a victory on Sunday to end a week in which the Aztecs won all four of their contests (one against UC Riverside and three against Air Force).

Doran was spectacular in the 5-3 victory, going seven strong innings giving up just one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Earlier in the week, Ethan Miller (BT ’12) earned a victory out of the bullpen in an absolute slugfest. Though the game’s final score was 19-13, Miller was able to give up only one run on five hits and a walk (while striking out five) in five innings of relief to secure the victory for the Aztecs.

Other notable pitching performances for the week belonged to Matt Bowman (BT ’10-’12 / Princeton) - 7IP, CG, W, ER, 6H, 2BB, 9K and Martin Agosta (BT ’11 / St. Mary’s (CA)) - 7IP, ER, 8H, 2BB, 10K.

Notable hitting performances: Michael Bass (BT ’11 / UNC-Wilmington) - 6/14, BB, HBP, 4R, 3RBI, 2B, SB… Josh Leemhuis (BT ’11 / George Mason) - 6/14, 3BB, 2R, 5RBI, SB… Matt Grieb (BT ’11 / Catholic) - 5/9, 5BB, HBP, 3R, 4RBI, 2B.
