Logan Farrar drives in one of the Big Train's 14 runs.

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the Bethesda Big Train picked up their 5th win of the season by defeating the the DC Grays, 14-3.  The Big Train have started the season 5-0, dominating in every aspect of the game.  The Big Train bats were live accumulating 15 hits and four home runs.  Kit Scheetz (Virginia Tech) took the hill for the Big Train, pitching five innings of three hit ball, giving up only two runs, walking none, and striking out four batters in his first win of the season.

Ray Lambert (Cal State Northridge) came in to relieve Scheetz, giving the Big Train three solid innings, allowing only one run.  Lambert's ERA on the season, in seven innings, is a mere 1.29.  Andy Frakes (San Francisco) pitched the 9th inning and gave up no runs, securing the victory for the Big Train.

In the top of the 4th inning, with the game tied at zero, the Big Train bats were unleashed, starting a frenzy of scoring.  Stephen Alemais (Tulane) led off the inning with a single, stole second base, and then scored on a Logan Farrar (Virginia Commonwealth) single.  Next batter, Ryne Willard (N.C. State) singled, moving Farrar over to third base.  Andrew Brown (San Diego State) kept the train moving with a single of his own, scoring Farrar. Grant Brown (Tulane) proceeded to walk, loading the bases. The first five Big Train batters of the inning were on base before the Grays were able to get their first out.  With one out and the bases loaded, Chris Lewis (Sacramento State) singled, and recorded his first RBI of the season, scoring Willard.  With the bases loaded, Kevin Tatum (Cornell) smashed a two RBI double to give the Big Train a 5-0 lead.

But the inning wasn't over just yet.  After a pitching change, Tony DiLeo (Eastern Michigan) singled in Chris Lewis and then Stephen Alemais hit into a fielders choice that scored Tatum.  This huge inning gave Big Train a 7-0 lead, and there was no looking back against the Grays.

The scoring continued for the Big Train in the 5th inning, when Grant Brown came up with one out, and hit the first home run of the regular season for Bethesda.  Cody Manzella (High Point) singled and then scored on the second home run of the inning for the Big Train by Chris Lewis, giving him three RBIs in his first start.  The Big Train was up 10-1 after five innings of play.

In the 7th inning, the Big Train crossed the plate three more times.  Cody Manzella reached on an error, then Chris Lewis got his third hit of the night on a sharp hit double.  Next batter, Tony DiLeo, hit a three run tater to give the Big Train a 13-1 lead, and their third homer of the game.

In the 9th inning, up 13-3, with the game seemingly over, Sean Labsan (Florida Atlantic) hit his first home run of the season on the first pitch he saw.  The Big Train secured the 14-3 victory with a tremendous showing of power and contact hitting.
