Big Train look for third win since All-Star Break![]() Teammates congratulate Udie Summerall after his solo home run against the Thunderbolts on July 13. After two blowout wins in a row, the Bethesda Big Train (30-5) look to continue their post-All-Star Game success against the Gaithersburg Giants (20-15). For the Big Train, who have been offensively dominant through most of the season, two-way player Alec Burleson (East Carolina) continues to lead the team and league in batting average (.435), home runs (9) and RBIs (39). He is trailed closely by Justin Wylie (Arizona) and Carson Taylor (VA Tech), who are hitting .429 and .343, respectively. Taylor is also right behind Burleson in RBIs, with 37. But, the team’s offensive leaders aren’t the only contributors of late. First baseman and designated hitter Udie Summerall (Florida Atlantic) is 4-6 in the past two games, with a walk and a double in both games. Summerall is hitting .284 with four home runs, the most recent of which came in the game against the Thunderbolts. The Big Train have not announced a starting pitcher at this time. Infielder Andres Machado leads the Giants in batting average, hitting .333 so far. But, it is Saul Garza who has hit the most homers, with 5 on the season. Garza also leads the team in RBIs with 21. While the Big Train have five players hitting over .300, the Giants only have three—Machado, Ryan Brown (.305) and Scout Knotts (.300). Right-hander Chandler Schultz is likely to take the mound for Gaithersburg. The rising sophomore enters with two wins and one save, sporting a 3.56 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched. In his most recent appearance he went two innings against the Braves, giving up no hits and striking out three. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Shirley Povich Field. It's Host Family Appreciation Night and all host families will be honored on the field before the game starts. |
