Big Train College Round-Up 3/15![]() Tucker Tobin continues his excellent play for George Mason While many Big Train players around the country had incredible weeks, this week's round-up will once again lead with Tucker Tobin (BT '11-'13). Last Friday night, Tobin led George Mason to a 14-13 victory over Georgia State as he went 3/4 with a home run and two doubles while driving in five and scoring three times. Luckily for the Patriots, Tobin (10/23, BB, 5R, 7RBI, 2HR, 3 2B) wasn't the only Big Train player on their roster having a good week. Brandon Gum (BT '12) went 6/18 with three walks, four runs scored, and three runs driven in and Josh Leemhuis (BT '11) was 5/15 with two walks. three runs scored, one run driven in, a double, and a stolen base.
Tobin may have had a game to help his slugging percentage, but Brennan Middleton (BT '10-'12) had a game to help his on base percentage. On Sunday, Middleton helped Tulane defeat High Point 11-10 in 12 innings. The actual victory for the game was awarded to Ian Gilbaut (BT '13) who pitched the final five innings of the game out of relief without giving up a run on only three hits and one walk. He struck out three. Middleton reached base six times with two singles, two walks, and two hit-by-pitches. He stole a base, scored twice, and drove in a run as well.
Hunter Renfroe (BT '11-'12) is clearly back in good health after his injury. He finished this week at Mississippi State with nine hits and two walks in 19 plate appearances. He also drove in five runs, scored five himself, and hit a home run, a triple, and a double.
Michael Bass (BT '11-'12) finished with a nearly identical line (9/19, 3BB, 7R, 6RBI, HR, 3B, 2B) for UNC-Wilmington this week. Two other former Big Train players came up big for UNC-Wilmington. Drew Farber (BT '10-'11) reached base in half his plate appearances (four hits and five walks) as he did a little bit of everything else as well (3R, 7RBI, HR, 2B, SB). Ricky Holden (BT '12) also helped the cause as we picked up a win in four innings of relief in which he gave up one earned run on two hits and four walks while striking out three.
Another school that benefited from a bevy of Big Train big games was St. Mary's (CA). Brenden Kalfus (BT '11) was at his best at the plate (six hits and five walks in 15 plate appearances) and on the bases (two runs, one stolen base). Big Train pitching was also a huge help as three Big Train pitchers chipped in for a combined 10.2 innings pitched (one win) allowing just one earned run on six hits, three walks, and one hit-by-pitch while striking out eight. The contributing pitchers were Ben Griset (BT '12), Patrick Keane (BT '10-'11), and Gary Cornish (BT '13).
