Excellent pitching by Big Train starter Adam Redd and superb defense gave Bethesda a 2-0 lead going into the eighth inning. But the College Park Bombers scored in the eighth, tied the game on an unearned run in the ninth, and won with a loud home run in the tenth.

Redd (Virginia Tech) allowed only one infield hit through six innings while striking out five. No base runner advanced beyond second base. The Big Train took a 1-0 lead in the fourth as Greg Lemon (Salisbury) walked with two outs, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Andrew Smith (San Francisco). In the seventh inning, Nick Cleckler singled and later scored on an RBI walk by Ken Beamer (Findlay).

The Bombers scored in the top of the eighth when Nick Jowers (Maryland) singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Juan Serrano (Norfolk State). Kohle Paul (Georgia Perimeter) scored the tying run in the top of the ninth inning on a single, a stolen base, and a Bethesda overthrow on an infield single by Jeff Germano (Florida Gulf Coast).

Hank Coogan (Richmond) singled in the tenth and scored on a home run over the high fence in left-centerfield by Serrano off Bethesda reliever Brett Tidball (Maryland). DiCarlo Thompson (Pensacola JC) shut down the Train in the ninth and tenth to get the win.

Big Train Notes: John McMahon of Miller & Long, the construction company that played a huge role in the construction of Povich Field, had two of his grandchildren throw out the ceremonial first balls. Thanks to Miller & Long for providing the first 250 kids 12 and under with a mini-bat Wednesday night.
