Box Score
The Big Train lost 3-2 to the Maryland Redbirds on Sunday night. It wasn't pretty. The game was lost in the top of the ninth with the score tied at two when Randy Boyle (UMBC), attempting to sacrifice bunt, reached base on a throwing error and later raced home on a wild pitch. The Big Train took the lead in the first when Matt Long (Santa Clara) singled with two outs, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a dropped fly ball. The Big Train extended its lead to two in the fourth inning when Luke Adkins (Southern Mississippi) walked and scored on a single by Brian Dozier (Southern Mississippi). The Redbirds tied the score with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings that resulted from a hit batsman and a throwing error.

Big Train Notes: A rain make-up game that started at 5 p.m. was halted by lightning after one inning and later postponed again when a thunderstorm drenched Povich Field. It was Mom Appreciation Night sponsored by the Choice Hotels Foundation and Backfence.com Bethesda. 200 moms each received a rose courtesy of Bethesda Florist. And best of all: the Big Train moms who have come to Bethesda from all over North America this weekend threw on ceremonial first pitches to their sons before the game. All at the same time! The DC United's Talon was in the house. It was a Cold Stone Ice Cream Sunday with free ice cream for 25 fans
