Big Train Beaten by Bombers

On Tuesday night in College Park the Bombers defeated the Big Train 5-2. Except for two runs early in the game, the Big Train bats were stifled by Bombers starting pitcher Mike Castrignano (Delaware State).

The Big Train got off to a good start when in the first inning Bert Smith (Jacksonville State) led off the game with a walk and was driven home on Andrew Foster's (Bowling Green) one out double. But College Park immediately answered in the bottom of the first with a run of their own when Mike Celenza (Salisbury) drove in Jeremy Jakubowski (Saint Joseph's) with an RBI single to even the score.

In the bottom half of the second the Bombers extended their lead to 3-1 after a Big Train miscue in the field, a sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch led to two more runs for College Park. Later, in the top of the third the Big Train would score their second run after Pat Minogue (Northern Illinois) would lead off with a double, steal third base and score on a Steven Leach (Jacksonville State) RBI groundout.

Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring for the Big Train as the Bombers pitching shut them out the rest of the way. For the Bombers offense it was Celenza, Jakubowski and Corey Todhunter (Mesa State) who did most of the damage. Celenza went 4-4 with an RBI, Jakubowski went 2-4 with an RBI and stolen base and Todhunter went 2-3 with a line drive home run in the fourth to go along with his walk and two runs scored.

One bright spot for the Big Train was pitcher Matt Hiserman (Santa Clara) who went four innings in relief and gave up no runs and struck out five.
