Big Train Fall to Bombers at Shipley

At College Park on Wednesday night the Big Train fell to the Bombers 6-5. College Park has been a tough place to play for the Big Train in 2007 as their record at Shipley Field fell to 0-4 this summer.

For the Bombers Henry Fuentes (Dowling College) had a pair of hits, including a two-run home run, and All-Star Jim Britton (St. Bonaventure) did not allow a run over the final 2.2 innings to pick up the win in relief.

Offensively for the Big Train, Steven Leach (Jacksonville State) got on base four times and had a base hit and three walks. Chris Duffy scored two runs and had the Big Train's lone RBI with a base hit in the second that scored Pat Minogue (Northern Illinois).

Derek Caldwell (Rider) pitched effectively in relief going two innings and allowed only one hit and one walk, but a costly error in the top of the seventh at third base scored Mike Kelch (Temple) from second. That unearned run proved to be the deciding run in the game as the Big Train were unable to score off Britton over the final two innings.
