BIG TRAIN BEATS THUNDERBOLTS TO RETAIN MONTGOMERY CUP
Box Score

This was not an instant classic. With the seedings set for the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Playoffs that start Monday, there were a lot of pitchers in this game and there were some players playing positions they haven't played since high school. The game was stopped in the top of the ninth to play "O Canada" in honor of reliever Chris Cullen (Michigan State)'s native land. A pitcher played short stop and our short stop got the save. Get the picture? We won 7-6 thanks to a six run fifth inning with three hits, four walks, one error, and a hit batsman. The big blow was a double by Matt Long (Santa Clara). Gabe Feldman (Whitman HS), making his first appearance for the Big Train, pitched a scoreless fifth inning and benefitted from the six run outburst to pick up the win. And by this victory, Bethesda retained the Gazette-sponsored Montgomery Cup, a competition among the three Montgomery County-based teams in the Cal Senior League.

Big Train Notes: The 28 wins were three more than last year's team won in capturing the CRSL regular season title. The Rockville Express this season matched our 2005 record of 25-15 but fell three games short... It was Volunteer & Host Family Appreciation Night sponsored by Chick-fil-A. Chick-fil-A donated picnic dinners for almost 100 Big Train volunteers and host families... The "Eat More Chicken" Cow was in the house along with G'Wiz of the Washington Wizards who somehow lost most of his clothing in a Race the Mascot accident that was entirely too graphic to report in detail in this family oriented email.
