Box Score

After a 30 minute rain delay, the Bethesda Big Train fell to Youse's Maryland Orioles 9 to 2, at Shirley Povich Field on Friday.

Youse's Maryland Orioles came out strong in the first inning, scoring two runs off of hits by Jeff Rowland, Gerald Hall, and Patrick Long, as well as a walk and an error by the Big Train. The Big Train kept the game close though, scoring one run by Michael Cippola (St. Mary's CA.) to the Orioles' zero in the second inning. After a scoreless third, the Orioles led 2-1.

In the fourth inning, through a seven hitter rally which was moved along by an error and a wild pitch, Maryland scored two more runs to lead the Big Train 4-1. From then on, the Orioles never looked back, scoring five more runs to only one for the Big Train.

The four Big Train pitchers, Brandon McClurg (Lipscomb), Kris Brown (Rider), Hugh Adams (Florida Atlantic), and Matt Hiserman (San Fransisco), combined for nine strikeouts, and only four walks.

Regardless of the loss, the Big Train still has sole posession of first place, clinging to a half game lead over the Orioles. Big Train is 1-3 when playing against the Orioles this season, and will look to improve on tonight's performance in the two more meetings with the Orioles this season, July 11 and 12 at Povich field.

Game Notes:
Tonight, the Big Train's very own Homer ran for president. He defeated his archenemy Gomer in a heated election...It was Bethesda "Green" night at the ballpark...The non-profits of the night were the League of Women Voters, Mobile Med, and Bethesda Green...Tonight's attendance was 351.
