Box Score

In their second game of the young season on Sunday night, the Big Train rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts. Game 2 of Sunday's scheduled double-header was postponed due to a malfunction with the Blair Stadium lights.

Michael Bottoms (Morehead State) started for the Big Train and was dominant through 5 innings, holding the Thunderbolts off the scoreboard through 3. Kris Brown (Rider) came on to finish the contest, striking out 1 in two scoreless innings of work.

The Big Train scoring began in the third inning as Connor Bernatz (San Francisco) reached on an error and was brought home by a line-drive single to right field from Designated Hitter Mike Celenza (Salisbury). In the fourth, Luke Adkins (Mississippi State) had an RBI double off the center-field wall to put Bethesda ahead 2-0. In the fifth, Bernatz again started the charge, leading off with a walk. Eli Boike (Michigan State) and Jordan King (Meridian CC) then both reached on walks, and Danny Stienstra (San Jose State) walked to fill the bases. Jarrod Parks (Mississippi State) was then hit by a pitch to drive home Boike, and Adkins followed with a liner into the left center-field gap to score King, Stienstra, and Parks.

The Big Train will take on the Herndon Braves on Monday at Herndon High School as they look to improve to 3-0.

Note: The game was only seven innings because of the scheduled doubleheader.
