by Zach Stone
Tuesday, July 7, 2009

On Tuesday night, the Big Train continued to stay hot, this time defeating the Maryland Redbirds, who were in second place when the game began, 9-1 for their fourth straight victory. The win left Bethesda 4 games ahead of rival Youse's Orioles for second place in the league.

The Big Train used the 'Mississippi Mashers' to take control of the game in the third inning. With the addition of Cody Freeman, the entire middle third of the Big Train lineup attends Mississippi State: Parks, Adkins, Freeman. Cleanup hitter Jarrod Parks broke the shutout with a sacrifice fly, plating Connor Bernatz (San Francisco). Luke Adkins followed with a double that knocked in Eli Boike (Michigan State). Freeman quickly doubled the 2-0 lead with a blast over the left-field fence.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Big Train had their second four-run inning of the night. With the bases loaded, Danny Stienstra (San Jose State)singled to center, scoring two runs. A walk by Parks re-loaded the bases for another two run single, this time by Adkins.

Starter Cameron Love (San Francisco) earned the win, holding the Redbirds scoreless over seven innings, allowing six hits while striking out three. Tyler Easterly (Ferrum) came on to pitch two strong innings in relief and seal the victory.

Each team added a run in their last at-bat, making the final score 9-1.
