Community Service Day 2004 a Huge Success

Thirty-two volunteers gathered at Shirley Povich Field and Field #2 at Cabin John Regional Park on Saturday, October 23rd to participate in Montgomery County¹s 18th annual Community Service Day. The group took advantage of the sunny weather to help beautify the ballparks and prepare them for the winter by cleaning up the flower beds around Povich Field, weeding the bullpens, weeding and raking the gravel warning tracks at both fields, and cleaning the concourse areas at Povich. The group also took down all the banners at both Povich Field and Field #2, cleaned them and stored them for the winter, and removed any trash left over at Povich Field. Some of the volunteers who came out to help were Big Train fans, some were visiting Povich Field for the first time, and four volunteers were members of the Georgetown University varsity baseball team. In sum, the thirty-two volunteers worked 97 combined hours, making 2004¹s Community Service Day at Povich Field and Field #2 a huge success.
