Ja Jones Named Griff League Player of the Week
Ja Jones of the Bethesda Big Train has been selected as the 2004 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week for the week of June 13. Jones, a right-handed pitcher, capped Bethesda's 5-0 week by earning the win as the Big Train posted their fourth shutout in five games with a 2-0 victory on the road against the Baltimore Pride. The 6-5, 223-pounder allowed just three hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out seven against the Pride. For the season, he is 2-0 with a 1.20 earned run average in three appearances, including two starts, and has posted 19 strikeouts while walking one and allowing just seven hits in 15 innings. Jones currently leads the CGCBL in strikeouts, is tied for the league lead in wins, ranks sixth in innings pitched and is eighth in ERA.
BACKGROUND: Transfer to University of Richmond for 2005 seasons... In 2004, played sophomore season at Georgia Perimeter College, a junior college located in Decatur, Ga.... Posted 5-5 record with 2.49 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 83 innings... Native of Brunswick, Ga.... Earned all-state honors from the Georgia Dugout Club as a senior at Brunswick High School in 2002... First season in CGCBL.
