The Baltimore Orioles traded former Big Train pitcher John Maine (BT 2000) to the New York Mets, along with reliever Jorge Julio, for starter Kris Benson on Saturday.
A sixth-round draft pick of the Orioles in 2002, Maine went 2-4 with a 6.60 ERA during his stint in the Majors after compiling a 24-13 record with a 2.75 ERA in the Minor Leagues. Maine made his Major League Debut on July 23, 2004 against the Minnesota Twins at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
Maine joins former Big Train teammate Steve Schmoll (BT 2000) on the Mets. On January 4, Schmoll was traded to the Mets from the Los Angeles Dodgers along with Duaner Sanchez for Jae Seo and Tim Hamulack. Schmoll went 2-2 with a 5.01 ERA and four saves in 47 2/3 innings for the Dodgers in 2005. The meeting between Maine and Schmoll marks the first time that Big Train alumni have met as teammates in the Major Leagues.
