14 shutout innings key Big Train's 7-0 run for the week
The Bethesda Big Train’s Adam Redd (Virginia Tech) was named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 21 – June 26. On June 21, with the Big Train having lost two games in a row and sitting in last place in the league standings, Redd went the distance and shut out the Maryland Orioles before a home crowd of 611 at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda. Redd scattered just four hits and four walks and struck out nine Orioles to pick up his first win of the season. Five days and five Big Train wins later, Redd faced the Maryland Redbirds at Towson University with sole possession of first place on the line. Redd tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks, as the Big Train won the game, 1-0. Redd moved his record to 2-0 on the season. He has not allowed a run in his first 20 innings pitched in 2005.
