Thomas (Big Train '05) Named ACC Player of the Week

For the second week in a row a Big Train alum is honored

Another Bethesda Big Train player has made news in the Atlantic Coast Conference: Bryan Thomas (Bethesda Big Train '05, '06) went 7-for-10 with 10 RBI, four runs, two home runs, and a double last week for the Virginia Tech Hokies to earn ACC Player of the Week honors. For the second time in two weeks a Big Train player won the award, as Brett Tidball (Big Train '05) of the University of Maryland was named ACC Pitcher of the Week for week one.

In two games last week, Thomas had hits in six consecutive at-bats, hit a grand slam, and knocked in a career best seven runs in one game. Thomas was a member of both the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Team and All-League Team in 2005...

Last week when Maryland Terrapins Tidball and Brett Cecil (Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts '05) combined to shut out East Carolina University on February 12, no pitcher in the game (including the two for East Carolina) issued a walk... 18 innings pitched and no walks is quite a feat in college baseball at any point in the season, but especially in the second game of the year!
