MATT LONG NAMED CRSL CO-MVP FOR 2006; LONG, ADKINS, PEHRSON, FREDERICKSON, & CULLEN NAMED TO ALL-LEAGUE TEAM
Matt Long (Santa Clara) and Charlie Lenhard of the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts have been named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League's Co-Most Valuable Players for the 2006 Season. Long and Big Train centerfielder Luke Adkins (Southern Mississippi) were named to the CRSL All-League team as outfielders. Other Big Train players named to the All-League team included designated hitter Preston Pehrson (Texas), left-handed pitcher Evan Frederickson (Virginia Tech), and right handed closer Chris Cullen (Michigan State). Congratulations to all!
Long hit a team-best .342 in 31 games for the Regular Season Champion Big Train. His 41 hits in 120 at-bats were most in the league among players with at least 80 at-bats. Long finished among the top five players in the league in eight offensive categories including batting average, hits, runs scored (26), RBI (24), triples (3), walks (22), total bases (58), and on-base percentage (.444). In 52 chances, Long carried a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. He was one of only two outfielders in the league to have a perfect fielding season with at least 50 chances.
