Enjoy the excitement of a Big Train Party Picnic at Povich Field!

More parties! More picnics! More fun!

What better way to celebrate a birthday or the end of the baseball or softball season than by joining Homer and the Big Train at Povich Field? This year, the Big Train is pleased to announce we are adding exciting new parties! No longer will Big Train celebrations be limited to those who have birthdays in June and July!

Big Train's "Team of the Night" package is the perfect party to celebrate the end of a great baseball, softball, soccer or other season. Younger teams (ages 4-8) will enjoy a game of wiffle ball in the outfield before the Big Train take the field; older teams (ages 9-15) will be introduced along with the Big Train players! Both teams will enjoy a pep talk from Big Train coaches and players. BOOK THIS PARTY EARLY! The "Team of the Night" package is available for only one younger team and one older team per game!

Is your office looking for an affordable way to celebrate the summer? Look no further than Big Train's Corporate Picnic Package! A casual night at the ball park is a great way for co-workers to enjoy the season along with their spouses and children. Special rates for Big Train media guide advertisers!

Neighborhood Night at the Park is perfect for a neighborhood block party, church group picnic, or any other large group that wants to catch a game together, while the Family and Friends Picnic Pack is a terrific option for smaller groups (6 people or more) who want to eat together in the pavilion before the game.

And of course, there's still the traditional--the Big Train remains the best place in the area to celebrate your child's birthday! This year the birthday kid will enjoy more goodies than ever before, with a baseball for autographs, participation in between-inning games like our water balloon bash and Mascot Race, and name listed in the Big Train nightly program! Your guests will receive a free pack of baseball cards and use of the batting cages, as well as a free ticket to a future Big Train game! Bulk discounts available on Big Train tee-shirts and hats!

All parties offer a choice of Ledo's pizza and hot dogs, a deli tray from the Bean Bag, or Ledo's Italian pasta feast. Auntie Anne's Pretzels and Gifford's ice cream and other goodies are also available from our vendors at the park!

Reserve your party now! Space in the pavilion and in the grandstand is available on a first come, first serve basis, and many of our June dates are already sold out!

Schedule of events:

  • 6 p.m. Guests may arrive
  • 6:15 p.m. Food served
  • 6:30 - 6:45 Homer, the Big Train dog, will visit your group's party
  • 7:15 p.m. Guests line up along first base line to run out on field with Big Train players.
  • 7:20 p.m. First pitch ceremony on the field
  • 7:30 p.m. Game begins (games last about 2 hours and 45 minutes, but many groups with young children leave before the games are over)

    Food: Choose from three food options for your 2009 party at Povich Field. All packages INCLUDE tickets to the game.

  • The Big Train Party Pack: Ledo Pizza and kosher hot dogs. Our most popular package! Plenty of pizza and hot dogs for everyone. Includes one Honest Kids juice box, Honest Ade, or bottled water per person. Price: $18 per adult, $10 per kid (12 & under)

  • The Deli Picnic Pack: Super-sized sub that serves 12, large garden or Caesar salad, fresh Bean Bag Deli cookies or brownies, and one Honest Kids juice box, Honest Ade, or bottled water per person. Price: $19.50 per adult, $11.50 per kid (12 & under). Must be ordered in multiples of 12.

  • The Italian Feast: Ledo specialty pasta dish (choice of one: lasagna, penne with chicken, spaghetti with meatballs, or baked ziti), large Caesar salad, fresh Bean Bag Deli cookies or brownies, and one Honest Kids juice box, Honest Ade, or bottled water per person. Must be ordered in multiples of 12.Price: $19.50 per adult, $11.50 per kid (12 & under)

  • If you plan on bringing birthday cake as part of your picnic please provide your own utensils, plates, napkins, etc.

  • Photography: Please contact Big Train photographer Lisa Kammerman (301-229-1383) for premium photo packages for your event.

    Rain Policy: If the Big Train game is cancelled for any reason before 6 p.m. on the date of the game, you will not be charged for your picnic. If the game is not cancelled before 6 p.m., but you decide to reschedule or cancel your picnic before 3 p.m. on the date of the game, you will not be charged for the picnic. If you decide to reschedule or cancel your picnic after 3 p.m., you will be charged (unless the game is cancelled before 6 p.m.) and given rain check tickets for another Big Train home game. Even if the game is cancelled, you can still have your picnic under the covered roof of the Davis Family Picnic Pavilion and receive rain check tickets for another Big Train home game.
