Michael Michaud Named New Big Train General Manager

The Bethesda Community Base Ball Club is pleased to announce that Michael Michaud is the new General Manager of the Bethesda Big Train as of April 4. Michael hails from Vermont and has lived in Washington, D.C. for more than a decade.

While this is his first official job in the baseball world, the game has been a part of his life for most of his 35 years. He played baseball through high school and during his freshman year at the University of Rochester. After transferring to the University of Vermont, Michael crossed over into coaching and served as assistant coach of a 15U AAU team for a summer, head coach of a high school fall ball team, and assistant coach at his alma mater, Champlain Valley Union High School during the spring semester of his senior year of college.

Since moving to DC, Michael has kept up with coaching, starting with younger kids. What began as helping a colleague coach his oldest son's BCC coach pitch team, he has moved up to taking over several BCC Senior Select teams and is currently coaching a team in that league this spring.

Professionally, Michael worked at investment bank Keefe, Bruyette & Woods as a member of the company's Washington Research team and as a director at DC public affairs consulting firm Hamilton Place Strategies. He has also done consulting on the side and currently works for a fantasy sports start-up he co-founded with some friends during the pandemic, Encore Fantasy Sports. He is also in the process of finishing up a master's degree at Johns Hopkins University.

"I am very excited to come onboard at Big Train to build upon the great foundation Bruce Adams and my predecessor, Chris Rogers, have built,” Michael said. “It's been a dream of mine to work in the sports industry and having lived in this area for a long time, I know how special Big Train is to the community. I'm looking forward to expanding the already sizable footprint the team has. The team has a history of success on the field and building important relationships off of it, and I can't wait to do my share to continue that growth."

“First, I want to thank Chris Rogers for his dedication to Big Train baseball and for steering us safely through the Covid challenge,” said Big Train founder Bruce Adams. “We are thrilled to welcome Michael as we plan to bring the Big Train family back together for another summer of fun. Right guy. Right time. Right place.”

Michael takes over for Chris Rogers, who spent four years as part of the Big Train front office – the last two as General Manager. He was influential in transferring stewardship of the team from BCC Baseball to the reconstituted BCBBC and in bringing the fun back to Shirley Povich Field last summer after the pandemic cancelled the 2020 season.

“I could not think of a better successor than Michael,” Chris said. “He brings a passion for the sport, a strong knowledge of the community, and a decade of business acumen to the job. He has already hit the ground running. I am excited to follow along as he works to bring Big Train baseball to new heights, both on the field and in the Bethesda community.”
