ROCKVILLE, Md. — As usual, honors at Shirley Povich Field were not limited to on-field action on Sunday.

The team started by honoring Caring Matters, the day’s Community Hero. Caring Matters directs Camp Erin, a volunteer-directed weekend camp to benefit youth suffering from the loss of a family member or friend.

The First Pitch Ceremonies were led by founder and president Bruce Adams. Adams welcomed multiple attendees with birthdays alongside the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad.

The festivities didn’t stop during the game. In the middle of the second inning, it was time for Homer’s birthday celebration. Homer, an official mascot of the Big Train, made an appearance as the stadium sang Happy Birthday to the Big Train’s beloved icon.

During the game, the team also hosted fun activities with KID Museum, the Park Potomac Pup Run and Treasures for Trash, an initiative geared toward sustainability. Kids had the opportunity to fill trash bags by searching for trash in the stadium, receiving a prize after they returned a newly-filled bag.

Prior to the seventh was the t-shirt toss, and after the game, the team hosted Kids Run the Bases, presented by Washington Parent Magazine. The night’s giveaway featured Homer cake pops and chalk for the first 100 kids aged 10 and under.

Come join us on Thursday against the Olney Cropdusters for Decades Night! Fans are encouraged to bring attire representing their favorite decades. We look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

The first 100 fans (ages 55 and above) will receive Big Train seat cushions, brought to you by Beacon Newspapers. It’ll also be Wizards Night, and Central Farm Markets co-founder Mitch Berliner will throw out a first ‘Peach’ and give away 50 $5 gift cards. Last but not least, get ready for a concert before the game with singers from Capital Accord!

As always, it’ll certainly be a night packed with fun at the ballpark, so you won’t want to miss it. Get your tickets HERE!
