Big Train look to continue hot streak against Braves

by Staff

The Bethesda Big Train (6-0) take on the FCA Herndon Braves (3-2) tonight, in what the Big Train hope will be the team’s eighth win of the season.

The Big Train have started off hot, dominating all but one of their six wins so far. That one game was a 4-1 win over the Rockville Express, where Bethesda’s ability to work walks and work through adversity on the mound paid off.

Right-hander Chris Clarke (University of Southern California) will likely get the start for the Big Train. He enters the game with a 2.25 ERA in four innings pitched.

For the Braves, righty John Defazio (Tampa), who enters with a 1.80 ERA in 5 innings, is likely to get the start.

At the plate, the Big Train have proven powerful. Four players are batting above .341—Justin Wylie (Arizona), Tyler Villaroman (San Francisco), Jacob Westerman (San Francisco) and Carson Taylor (Virginia Tech). In addition, Villaroman and Wylie join infielder Tyler Reis (Waynesburg) with five or more walks so far this season.

For the Braves, three players are batting above .300—Bryce Leasure (Citadel), Devin Mangum (Mars Hill) and Austin Gauthier (Hofstra)—and the most times a player has been walked is three.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Annandale High School in Annandale, Virginia.
