Big Train Looks to Defend Home Turf from Aces

by Staff

The Bethesda Big Train are traveling home from their high-scoring win against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts to take on the Alexandria Aces in their home opener. The Big Train hopes to continue their streak of defending their home turf against their visiting opponents, as they begin their defense of three straight league titles.

Finishing their 2018 season 17-22, the Aces finished fourth in the Cal Ripken Collegiate South division. Only one player will return from last year’s roster, Nick Sadd (Bucknell), a right-handed pitcher. A former rival has now become a friendly face: Kris Kremer (Penn State) made the switch and now plays infield for the Bethesda Big Train.

The Big Train and Aces faced off a total of five times in the 2018 season. Bethesda overpowered their rivals, taking a 3-2 record and gaining two of those victories at home. Fans and players alike are going to feel excitement in the air at Shirley Povich Stadium on Thursday evening.

The first pitch is set for 7 p.m., but plan to arrive early to score a sweet deal! The first 250 fans will receive a Bethesda Big Train Opening Day t-shirt, courtesy of Miller & Long. If you’re not able to make the game, make sure to tune into the game broadcast! The play-by-play coverage will be broadcast by Alex Drain and Shaun Salehi; you can listen here.
