Big Train Set to Open Regular Season in Silver Spring

by Staff

After winning a pair of exhibition games at Shirley Povich Field this past weekend, the Bethesda Big Train are set to open regular season play. The team will begin the new campaign on the road as they will travel east to take on the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts on Wednesday.

In 2018, the T-Bolts went 18-22, which landed them in the third place in the Northern division. This season they will return seven players from their 2018 roster in Corey Rosier (Chipola), Jack Schroeder (Virginia Commonwealth), Yash Rane (Lehigh), Austin Weber (Towson), Jaren Zinn (Harvard), Teddy Blumenauer (Harford) and Jacob Pecilunas (Towson).

The Big Train played the T-Bolts four times in 2018, going 3-1 in those match-ups while outscoring Silver Spring 32-15.

Turning the page to 2019, the Big Train will look to extend a winning streak that date's back to 2014, as the team has won each of their last five opening day ball-games. Their most recent loss in a season opener came in 2013 against the Baltimore Redbirds.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Montgomery Blair Stadium in Silver Spring, Maryland. Tickets are six dollars for adults and two dollars for children under the age of 18. Can't make the trip? You can listen to Alex Drain and Shaun Salehi's broadcast by searching Big Train on Mixlr.
