ROCKVILLE, Md. — As always, Thursday’s home game featured an incredible fan atmosphere at Shirley Povich Field.

The Big Train invited attendees to dress up like their favorite decades for Decades Night! The team had multiple giveaways in store, featuring Big Train seat cushions by Beacon Newspapers, $5 gift certificates for Central Farm Markets and giveaways conducted by the Washington Wizards Community Team for Wizards Night. Fans also had the chance to play pop-a-shot on a Wizards basketball inflatable next to the Kids Fun Zone.

The night’s Community Hero was Friends Club Bethesda, a nonprofit social therapeutic day program geared toward those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other kinds of memory loss. Prior to the game, the Big Train also introduced the Capital Accord chorus, a local a cappella group, for a pregame concert. The group sang outside the Picnic Pavillion before taking the field to perform the national anthem.

Team founder and president Bruce Adams welcomed Ken Silverstein from Friends Club and Mitch Berliner from Central Farm Markets for the night’s first pitch ceremonies. Once the game began, there were still numerous fun activities to be had.

Prior to the second inning, Capital Accord sang once again behind home plate. In the middle of the inning, the team hosted “Guess That Song,” playing “Centerfield” by John Fogerty and “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. During the rest of the game, the team also hosted the Potomac Pup Run, an Instagram fan vote with song options to be played on the speakers, Treasures for Trash and a 50/50 raffle.

Today’s game against the Southern Maryland Senators features a double promotional night! Fans are invited to dress as their favorite dinosaur for Dino Night, and the team will also celebrate Koa Sports Night to spotlight Koa Sports camps in Rockville. There’ll also be a second consecutive capital-themed concert, performed tonight by Capital Classics Quartet before the game.
