Drew Hamrock Homers Before Game Begins: Thunderbolts vs. Big Train Preview

by Staff

It's usually tough to predict whether or not a player will hit a home run in a game. There's a lot to consider--the pitcher, the park, the batter, the weather, your own prediction skills. But for a select few games, that task becomes much easier.

In Wednesday night's contest against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts, I have one prediction I feel 100% confident about: Drew Hamrock (Virginia) will hit a home run. And no, that's not me being overconfident. Wednesday's game will be a continuation of an earlier game that was called in the second inning shortly after--you guessed it--Drew Hamrock knocked a ball clean out of the park to give the Big Train a 1-0 lead.

For the Big Train and Thunderbolts, this game will mostly serve as a tune-up game for the players, and potentially a preview of the league championship. Currently, both teams have respectively locked up the #1 and #2 seeds for the Cal Ripken League playoffs. The CRCBL's playoff format will give both teams a bye, advancing them past the play-in first round. Then, the Big Train will face the lower remaining seed in a best-of-three series while the Thunderbolts will face the higher remaining seed.

If both teams win their respective series, they will meet with the league's highest prize on the line--the championship. The championship will also be determined in a best-of-three format.

Silver Spring is just a short ride away from Bethesda, so come on down to Montgomery Blair Stadium at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to see the Big Train back in action! If you can't make it, check us out on our Mixlr broadcast with commentators Shaun Salehi and Alex Drain. They're pretty great broadcasters, so you may not even be able to tell you're not actually at the game. Yeah, they're that good. Tune in!
