Farewell Week: Big Train versus Giants

by Staff

The Bethesda Big Train (28-6) face the Gaithersburg Giants (13-18) on Friday night at Shirley Povich Field. Bethesda has clinched the top seed for the playoffs and the regular season championship, which means this game will serve somewhat as a tune-up. Gaithersburg, meanwhile, is nearly locked up with the FCA Braves, who are 13-19, within potential striking distance of the DC Grays for the third seed. This game’s outcome will be important for the Giants’ playoff seeding.

Lately, the Big Train have been cruising. They’ve taken 11 straight headed into Friday, which is no small accomplishment. The 11-game win streak is the longest in the Cal Ripken League this season, and it’s a big reason the Big Train have dashed out to an insurmountable lead in the standings with a handful of games to go.

It will be Nationals night at the ballpark as well. That means both you and your favorite interns will be dressing up in Washington Nationals gear as the Big Train show their support. First pitch, as always, is at 7 p.m.
