Fourteen Big Train Players To Participate In Southeast Collegiate Prospect Showcase
The Bethesda Big Train will not play another game until Thursday night, but for many of their players, there will be no rest. Fourteen Big Train players will be traveling to Cary, North Carolina, Monday to represent the Cal Ripken League in the Southeast Collegiate Prospect Showcase.
Five summer collegiate league all-star teams will make the trip as the Cal Ripken League will join the Southern League, Sunbelt League, Valley League and Florida League at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The 14 Big Train players set to make the trip are pitchers Michael Bechtold (James Madison), Maceo Campbell (Longwood), Chase Lee (Alabama), Ryan Okuda (Virginia Tech), Dalton Ponce (St. Mary's CA) and Nathan Schneider (St. Mary's CA); infielders Gio Diaz (St. Mary's CA), Kobe Kato (Arizona) and Keith Torres III (Sacramento State); outfieldersChristian Jayne (East Carolina), Tate Soderstrom (Arizona) and Matt Thomas (William & Mary); and catchers Cade Hunter (Virginia Tech) and Jacob Southern (Jacksonville).
They will join five players from the Alexandria Aces, four from the Gaithersburg Giants, two from the D.C. Grays and one player from both the FCA Braves and Silver-Spring Takoma Thunderbolts to round out the Cal Ripken League roster.
The Cal Ripken League will participate in two games while in North Carolina. Monday they will take on the Sunbelt League at 7:35 p.m. and Tuesday they will square off with the Southern League at 4 p.m. Shaun Salehi and Aaron Gershon will be making the trip and calling both games live on Mixlr.
