Lowe and Renfroe are World Series bound

by Staff

For the first time in their MLB careers, Brandon Lowe (Big Train 2014) and Hunter Renfroe (Big Train 2011-12) are headed to the World Series. Their Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Houston Astros, 4-2, in a winner-take-all ALCS Game 7 Saturday to advance to the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Game 1 is Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET.

Lowe collected four hits, including a home run, in the ALCS while playing excellent defense at second base. Renfroe went 2-for-9 with a two-run double in the series, and made a game-saving grab in the Rays' Game 3 victory.

Lowe and Renfroe are the first pair of Big Train alumni to make the World Series in the same year. Cody Allen (Big Train 2008, 2010) was the first alum to make it, winning the American League pennant with the Cleveland Indians in 2016. Brian Dozier (Big Train 2006) made it in consecutive years, coming up short with the Dodgers in 2018 before winning it all with the Washington Nationals in 2019.

Good luck to Brandon and Hunter as they continue their quest for a World Series championship!
