Kide Adetuyi and Dylan Murphy by Mark Thalman
ROCKVILLE, Md. - The Cal Ripken Sr. Summer Collegiate Baseball League announced its 2025 All-Star rosters on Monday. The Bethesda Big Train are sending a league-high 12 players to Wednesday’s event with eight position players and four pitchers. Let’s dive into who will be representing the Big Train at Shirley Povich Field.
Kide Adetuyi: Starting Pitcher, Florida Atlantic University
Adetuyi has had a remarkable first half performance for the Big Train. The southpaw has developed into one of the Big Train’s aces. His miniscule 0.47 ERA is tops in the entire league among qualifiers. He also is number one with a .143 batting average against. The FAU junior has not given up an earned run since his first appearance of the season and has surrendered just one extra base hit for the season.
Drew Bellis: Starting Pitcher, University of Central Florida
Bellis joins Adetuyi as the co-ace of the Big Train’s pitching staff. The lefty helped the Big Train to their first win of the season with a dominant three innings against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts. Bellis ranks fourth in ERA. He leads all pitchers in strikeouts with 47, over 20 more than the next closest hurler.
James Gladden: Relief Pitcher, University of Maryland
Gladden has been one of the most improved players in the entire league. He has blossomed into one of Sal Colangelo’s most trusted relievers. He has given up just one earned run in nine innings of work. In a chaotic back-and-forth contest against the Metro South County Braves, Gladden recorded the save. He set the Braves down in order with two strikeouts mixed in for the Big Train’s come-from-behind 15-13 road victory.

Emilio Gonzalez: First Baseman, Florida Atlantic University
Gonzalez has developed into one of the Big Train’s most lethal hitters. He leads the team with a .373 batting average, good for second in the entire league. Gonzalez also is second on the team with .949 OPS. Gonzalez also has 13 walks to just 12 strikeouts on the year.
Dylan Murphy: Catcher, Florida Atlantic University
Despite playing a defensive taxing position, Murphy has turned into an offensive powerhouse. He currently owns a .326 batting average to go with a .473 on-base percentage. He also has struck out just four times this season to go along with 10 walks. Murphy also came up with one of the most clutch defensive plays of the season. With two outs in the final frame and the tying run on third base, the ball traveled to the backstop. Murphy quickly got out his stance and flipped the ball towards home plate to get the runner and end the ballgame for a big win against the Thunderbolts.
Brett Ott: Outfielder, Sacramento State
Ott has transformed into one of the most consistent hitters in the Big Train’s lineup. He currently sits with a .353 average and a whopping .515 on-base percentage. The .515 OBP would rank second in the Cal Ripken Sr. League if he had enough plate appearances to qualify. His high on-base number is in large part due to his 13 walks and only 10 punchouts.
Alex Peltier: Outfielder, East Carolina University
The Big Train’s leadoff man has had a stellar first half both at the plate and in the field. He is third in the entire league with a .363 average. He is also near the top in the league with 17 stolen bases. He also has made many sparkling plays when patrolling centerfield. Throughout the year, he has put on his superman cape to make full-extension catches deep in the outfield gaps.

Josh Skowronski: Outfielder, Winthrop University
Skowronski is currently tied with teammate Logan Ponnett (University of North Carolina Charlotte) for the league lead in homers with three. The power-hitting outfielder also sports a very good .304 batting average. He also has a .519 slugging percentage, good for second in the league. Even with the power, Skowronski has tallied 17 walks and only 11 strikeouts. In the aforementioned 15-13 win over the Braves, Skowronski slugged two homers in the contest, including the eventual game-winning two-run shot in the 10th inning. Skowronski has also played clean defense, as the corner outfielder has not made an error all season.

Peyton Steele: Outfielder, University of Alabama
Steele is second in the league in RBIs with 21. The outfielder has also displayed versatility, as he showed he can play first base when called upon. Steele hit a mammoth three-run homer last week against the Olney Cropdusters. The three-run shot proved to be the difference in the Big Train’s 6-3 win.
Owen Stewart: Relief Pitcher, George Mason University
Stewart has become the Big Train’s relief ace. Whenever the Big Train is in a pitching jam in a close contest, Colangelo brings in the righty to put out the fire. The reliever has yet to give up a single run in nearly 15 innings pitched this season. He's also recorded a remarkable 19 strikeouts to just four walks. He also played a key role in the thrilling 15-13 win against the Braves. On just one day of rest, Stewart tossed four shutout innings to put the hot Braves offense on ice.

Matt Westley: Infielder, Undecided
Westley has been one of the Big Train’s hottest hitters. He has more walks than strikeouts (13 to 12). To go along with his .329 average, the infielder also has an impressive .529 slugging percentage. Westley hit a huge home run on July 2nd in a 2-1 win over the Thunderbolts. A couple of days prior, he also recorded three doubles in a contest against the Southern Maryland Senators.
Brennon Wright: Infielder, University of South Alabama
Wright is currently riding a 24-game on-base streak. He has reached base in every contest he’s played in this season. He ranks third on the Big Train with a .355 batting average. Among qualifiers, he is second on the team with a .479 on-base percentage. He also has an eye-popping 21/9 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He delivered the eventual game-winning hit in a late comeback win against the D.C. Grays on Sunday.
