New Month, Old Foe: Big Train face Thunderbolts to Open July

by Staff

The Bethesda Big Train (17-6) have held first place in the Cal Ripken League for some time now. Bethesda has been rolling as of late, having won four of their last five despite Sunday night's loss to the Gaithersburg Giants.

Now, the Big Train will square off against a familiar opponent, the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts. Bethesda has faced Silver Spring five times already this season, and the Big Train are 4-1. A common theme against this Thunderbolts squad for the Big Train this season has been run production. The Big Train are averaging 9.8 runs per contest, and in their wins against Silver Spring, that number only becomes more daunting--a whopping 11.25 runs per game.

Big Train hitters have fared very well against the Thunderbolts, so look for some of Big Train's reliable bats to put in some work. That means expect big days from some combination of Jacob Southern (Jacksonville), Kobe Kato (Arizona), Matt Thomas (William and Mary), and Gio Diaz (St. Mary's CA).

Another storyline to watch out for: the Big Train are now 4-1 coming off of a loss. The team has proven it's tough for teams to pull one over on them in consecutive nights, which is all the more reason to believe the team will pull out all the stops Monday night.

The game is set to get underway at 7 p.m. at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring. That's just a short hike from the Big Train's normal location, which means you're not a long distance from some Big Train action. Get in your car and get after it for this Bethesda Big Train contest in Silver Spring, against Silver Spring-Takoma.
