Preview: Big Train set for championship rematch with Redbirds

by Staff

The Big Train are now 5-0 on the season and will take on the 4-1 Baltimore Redbirds on Tuesday. After this game was originally cancelled due to rain on Sunday and Bethesda had another contest wiped out yesterday, Big Train will certainly be eager to get back on the field. The Redbirds are the last team to have taken a game from Bethesda, having beaten Big Train once during last year's League Championship Series. Bethesda went on to win that series, clinching its second straight Cal Ripken League championship, before starting this season on a similar note with five mostly dominant wins.

The Redbirds have been a strong challenger to Big Train over the past several years and are currently leading the CRCBL's North Division, while Bethesda sits atop the South.

Big Train will start LHP Carter Bach (Wake Forest) on the mound, while the Redbirds will counter with Holt Jones. Bach, a rising junior in college, will be making his Big Train debut. Other players to watch for Bethesda include catcher Carson Taylor (Virginia Tech) and outfielder Justin Wylie (Arizona), who are tied with each other for the league lead in RBIs (8). Wylie was just named CRCBL Hitter of the Week for the first week of the season. First pitch Tuesday night will be at 6:30 p.m. at Calvert Hall High School in Baltimore.

Fans unable to make the trip can follow Big Train on Twitter (@gobigtrain) and Instagram (gobigtrain) for live updates and stats. Max Wolpoff and PJ Glasser will host the Big Train radio broadcast, which can be found by clicking the Watch Live button next to the league standings on the Big Train homepage.
