The Avengers: Big Train Looks to Tie Series in Silver Spring

by Staff

The Big Train looks to avenge their loss against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts on Tuesday evening. The Thunderbolts took the first game of the three game Cal Ripken League Championship Series, besting the Big Train 9-0. Bethesda will be traveling a short distance to Montgomery Blair Stadium to defend their 2018 title and keep their hope of a fourth straight alive.

If the Big Train prevails, the third and final game will take place back on the home front Wednesday. Silver Spring fought tooth and nail in order to face off against Bethesda in the league playoff finals. Though the Thunderbolts may have swept the rivaling D.C. Grays, both games were within one run. The second game of the semifinals saw the score bob back and forth the most, the Thunderbolts ultimately shutting the Grays down by one run.

In the regular season, Silver Spring ended with a 20-18 record, landing second in the division. Bethesda only bringing in seven losses, the Thunderbolts had almost three times as many losses. The Big Train hopes to bring their playoff momentum back, tying up the series and forcing a third game.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Blair Stadium on the grounds of Montgomery Blair High School. Travel along with the Big Train, and make sure to rock the green! If you aren’t able to tag along, not to worry. Play-by-play coverage will be broadcast by Alex Drain and Shaun Salehi; tune in here.
