Williamson, Martzolf, Stevens Named 2024 All-League
Big Train centerfielder Andrew Williamson (Central Florida), who set new Ripken League records for batting average (.462), slugging percentage (.908), and OPS (1.452), has been named the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate
Baseball League’s 2024 Most Outstanding Hitter. “Andrew put on the greatest offensive display that we’ve ever seen in the Cal Ripken Sr. League,” Big Train Manager Sal Colangelo said. “Not only his batting average, but RBIs, home runs. The guy almost won the Triple Crown. No one has hit .462. He’s broken a lot of records and played every game and was a leader on the field.” Williamson led the league in batting average, tied for the league lead with 9 home runs, and his 33 RBIs were just two behind the league leader. His 99 total bases ranks second all-time behind only Hunter Renfroe’s 116 for the Big Train in 2012. Williamson earned the Most Outstanding Player Award for his performance in the League Championship Series, leading the Big Train to our eleventh Ripken League Championship. Manager Sal Colangelo named Williamson the Big Train’s 2024 Most Valuable Player.
Ethan Houghtaling (Alexandria Aces/Grand Valley State) was named the Ripken League’s Most Outstanding Pitcher.
Congratulations also go out to Big Train pitchers Max Martzolf (Florida Atlantic) and Jonathan Stevens (Alabama) for being named to the CRSCBL 2024 All-League First Team. First baseman Emilio Gonzalez (Florida Atlantic), outfielder Jaden Bastian (Jacksonville), designated hitter Davin Whitaker (East Carolina), and pitcher Kevin Scully (James Madison) were also named All-League Second Team. In addition to Williamson, Manager Sal Colangelo honored our three All-League performers with individual Big Train awards — Most Outstanding Hitter (Gonzalez), Relief Pitcher of the Year (Martzolf), and Pitcher of the Year (Stevens.)
