A Night of Celebration, Rain or Shine

Even though Friday’s game was suspended due to weather, fans still had a great time at Shirley Povich Field as we honored some of our incredible Community Heroes!

As part of our Community Heroes series, we were proud to recognize Open Door Sports, a nonprofit offering free adaptive sports programs—including soccer, yoga, and golf—for children and young adults with disabilities. Since their founding, they’ve impacted over 2,300 children with disabilities and nearly 1,000 children from low-income households, with the help of more than 3,000 volunteer peer buddies.

Friday was also Koa Sports Night, celebrating the Rockville-based youth sports organization dedicated to developing kids into confident athletes and strong individuals. Koa offers a wide range of summer camps and year-round programs that emphasize both skill and character.

Fans also enjoyed a special pre-game performance by the Capital Classics Quartet, singing in barbershop harmony style at the Shirley & Walter statue. The group performs across the DMV year-round and brought an extra spark to the evening’s festivities.

The Big Train also proudly acknowledged the work of So What Else, another valued community partner helping support underserved youth in our region.

Although the game was suspended, we appreciate everyone who came out to celebrate these amazing organizations. Tickets from Friday’s game (6/13) will be honored on the rescheduled date, Tuesday (6/17), as general admission.

🎟️ Tickets for Tuesday’s game can be purchased at https://www.bigtrain.org/tickets. All seating will be general admission.

We can’t wait to see you back at the ballpark!
