Big Train Game versus Senators Suspended Due to Severe Weather
Big Train Pregame Meeting
ROCKVILLE, Md. - The Bethesda Big Train’s highly anticipated matchup against the first place Southern Maryland Senators (7-1 record on the season) was suspended Friday due to weather. The game halted in the top of the third inning with the Senators clinging to a 1-0 lead.
Tanner Kaler (University of North Carolina Charlotte) toed the rubber for the Big Train. The southpaw pitched two-plus innings and gave up one run on four hits and one walk. He recorded one punchout in his rain-shortened outing.
In the top of the second inning, Kaler worked himself into a first and second jam after a leadoff single and a walk opened the frame. Catcher Jacob Hauk (University of Maryland) visited Kaler to settle down the lefty. The starter responded and forced Dawson Smail to bounce into a double play. Kaler was one pitch away from getting out of the jam, but number nine hitter Logan Tribble singled to bring home the lone run of the day for either side.
Emilio Gonzalez (Florida Atlantic University) was the lone batsman to reach base for the Big Train, as he reached on an error by the second baseman. The slugging first baseman was erased on a popup to the Senator’s starting pitcher Nick Wimberly, who flipped it to first as Gonzalez was caught too far off the bag.
The skies opened up in the top of the third with a man on first and nobody out and forced the game to be called.
The game will be resumed on Tuesday, June 17 at 7 p.m. Tickets for yesterday’s game will be honored for the continued matchup on Tuesday. It will pick up in the top of the third inning with the Big Train down 1-0.
The Big Train will host their first ever FREE Fan Fest today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Shirley Povich Field. The Big Train will continue their homestand against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts on Sunday at 10 a.m.
